Coral Island

This
is one of the most popular destinations from the southern end of
Phuket Island. The water is beautiful; perfect for water sports
such as para-sailing, snorkelling, skiing, sailing and scuba diving.
Casual beach restaurants serve good Thai food and cold beer. While
tours are available, it's easy to get there oneself by hiring a
long-tail boat for half a day. (The best place for this is Rawai
Beach, at the southern end of the island, where a boat should take
you for about 800 Baht for half a day). There is a wonderful resort,
Coral
Island Resort, where you can stay for a couple of nights.
Maiton Island

The
popular Maiton Island Resort is situated on this island. The resort
boasts the whole island to itself and there are no day trips offered
to this island. For a world of your own, this is the perfect choice.
Racha Islands

These
islands lie directly south of Phuket. Racha Yai, the closer, has
two beaches, a few bungalows and some food stalls. A small village
of Muslim fishermen are increasingly turning to tourism for their
high-season living. Colourful coral gardens fringe the island. Along
with the exceptionally clear waters, they make this a popular destination
for day-trip divers. Inland the green hills and coconut plantations
offer pleasant walks. To get there, rent a longtail boat on Rawai
beach (normally 1,000-2,000 Baht for the day). The trip takes about
an hour. Racha Noi, farther to the south, has no habitation and
only one tiny beach. The diving between Racha Yai and Noi is usually
very good and offers a chance to see big fish. This dive trip is
only for advanced divers as the current is very strong.
Rang Yai Island

This
is a remarkably beautiful and quiet area with a lovely beach. Recently
this island has developed into an adventure island with activities
such as kayaking, windsurfing, mountain biking, trekking and lots
more offered. There is also a restaurant which serves Thai and International
food, and soon bungalows will also be provided for overnight stays.
Koh Khai Nok

A fairly isolated island with only one or two groups visiting a
day. There is a great live coral reef which is suitable for snorkelling.
The island is uninhabited and quite small with a beach on either
side of the island. A great place to spend a day. You can get there
either by longtail or contact Coral
Seekers, which offers exclusive day trips to many of the smaller
islands near Phuket.
